Child participating in play-based, neurodiversity-affirming speech therapy for kids in Scotch Plains, NJ

Welcome to Speech Playhouse!

We specialize in play-based speech therapy for children ages 0-10, creating a space where every child feels safe to be themselves and try new things. During sessions, you’ll see us down on the floor, playing ring around the rosy, spinning in chairs, or flying like airplanes!

We believe that every child is beautiful and unique, so we celebrate their strengths rather than focusing on their challenges. Our neurodiversity-affirming approach means that we honor all forms of communication and celebrate each child for exactly who they are.

By prioritizing trust, co-regulation, and play, our goal is to help your child express themselves in a way that feels authentic and joyful.

Meet Your Speech Therapist

Holly Kupershmit, M.S., CCC-SLP, owner and speech therapist at Speech Playhouse in Scotch Plains, NJ

Holly Kupershmit, M.S., CCC-SLP

Owner, Speech-Language Pathologist

I have been a speech therapist for over 18 years, working in early intervention, preschools, and early childhood settings. As a neurodiversity-affirming speech therapist, my goal is to establish an authentic and trusting relationship with your child— one where they feel safe to take risks and step out of their comfort zone.

I love to play and see what lights your little one up! During sessions, you’ll often see us down on the floor and moving around as we build language skills… because learning should be joyful!

I will provide therapy for your child as if they were my own because I’ve been in your shoes. When my daughter was diagnosed with autism at 18 months, I immersed myself in the latest research and evidence-based, neurodiversity-affirming practices. It changed everything. I stopped seeking to "cure" her and instead embraced her for who she is.

Learning that all brains are beautiful not only helped my daughter thrive but also ignited my passion for supporting other children and families on the same journey. Autistic kids don’t need therapy because they are autistic— but they may need individualized support to succeed, thrive, and, most importantly, be happy. That’s where my passion lies!

Above all else, I want parents to feel hope, confidence, and excitement for their child’s future. I will help you follow your child's lead and give you specific ways to support their growth at home. I honor all types of play, celebrate strengths, and empower families to find joy in every milestone. We will do great things together!

  • "She was extremely professional, educated, and committed..."

"Holly worked with our son for almost two years. She was extremely professional, educated, and committed to helping our son through his journey. She was a huge support not only for him but for our entire family. She had a great way of getting on his level and keeping him engaged throughout lessons. The countless hours of therapy have paid off as he is now a happy and extremely talkative 5-year-old!

  • "...would highly recommend her to anyone."

"Holly was one of the most caring and supportive speech therapists that my son had! She always heard me out with all the questions I had and helped my son blossom with his speech. He loved her from day one even though he usually had a hard time adjusting to new people. With Holly, he was always comfortable. She's truly the best and would highly recommend her to anyone."

    -Sev, parent

“There needs to be a lot more emphasis on what a child can do instead of what he cannot do.”
